IFFIm Board Chair, Cyrus Ardalan, and British Red Cross Innovative Finance Specialist, Simon Meldrum, envisage a platform to promote innovative finance more broadly following the success of IFFIm Vaccine Bonds.

A forum is conceived

A roundtable in London brought together nearly 50 participants from the development, financial services, and academic sectors. Participants shared their experience implementing impact bonds, innovative finance tools for humanitarian purposes, and endorsed the concept of &ldquo;forum&rdquo; or &ldquo;network&rdquo;.&nbsp;

Informal roundtable held

The events provide opportunities for organisations that are interested in developing innovative finance solutions to showcase their ideas, ask questions, and meet finance professionals who are able to provide guidance, as well as share lessons learned.

Series of roundtable

The roundtable is named the Innovative Humanitarian Finance Forum (IHFF), with 30 participants from 17 organisations. A Working Group is formed with representatives from across different stakeholders to develop it.

Forum is established&nbsp;

The Forum moves online and hosts [3] virtual events. Despite the disruption, participation continues to grow and reaches over 150 people from more than 125 organisations.

Events grow and membership expands

Different event formats with targeted goals and aims are held (Workshop and Spotlight Events) to better serve the community needs and accelerate knowledge exchange and concept development. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Formats refined and developed

IHFF is relaunched as Humanitarian Finance Forum (HFF) and Working Group develops the organisational structure, refines its aims, and grows its network.

Forum is renamed&nbsp;

A website and other resources are launched to provide information on HFF purpose and activities and to support community engagement and networking among members.&nbsp;

Website is launched

The Forum is set-up as an independent UK not-for-profit entity (Company #13773780) with the corporate objective of promoting and accelerating the greater use of financial markets to address global humanitarian challenges and emergencies.

Forum is incorporated

Helen Alderson, former Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation to the UK and Ireland and Samantha Naidoo, Director of Strategy and Planning Mastercard Foundation join the Forum Board of Directors, growing the organisation's range of skills, profiles, and depths of experience to promote innovative financing more broadly.
